Introducing: Cooper, Conner, Reggie, Ella Fern, Jenny, Princess POTTY TRAINING Our puppies are potty trained as of their current age of 7 weeks. We do this by beginning the process when they are only a few days old. At that point, they are eliminating waste by way of their mother's licking. When they are about a week old, we begin having Mom "potty them" over the pine that we intend to use for them to potty and poop. They begin associating the pine scent with the sensation of eliminating waste. As their eyes and ears open, they begin hearing us say "go potty," while visualizing the pellets. As Mom stops encourage them to potty, they go in the provided pine. This reinforces the association that "waste goes in pine." We do exercises throughout the day to help teach this further, and as the puppies grow and are moved out of their newborn pen, they learn to seek out the pine for pottying and pooping. Since this becomes the only way they've known to potty, bad habits aren't formed. By six weeks, they're most comfortable going potty and poop only in their pellets. Since we intervene so early, they never become comfortable pottying on surfaces like hardwood, tile, or carpet. If they can avoid it, they will. We bring a potty tray with us when we bring them out to play on the floor, and they are always great about using it. They each know what "Go Potty" means. The natural scent and feel of pine makes it is easy to cross-train pottying outdoors. It only takes 1 or 2 "atta boys" when pottying outside and they quickly learn that "Oh! I can potty here too!" With the nice weather lately, we've been taking these puppies outside and helping them learn that pottying and pooping in the grass is great! LOCATION The puppies are now in their final pen location, although we will expand it up to 3x its current size. They are in the central-most point of our home. This location is in our foyer, which is adjacent to our living room, dining room, and kitchen. It is also at the bottom of the stairs leading upstairs, and at the top of the staircase leading downstairs. They are new to this location, and it has taken time to work their way to this spot, but it has a very specific purpose. This location sees the most foot traffic in our home. It hears all the commotion and sees the most business. We want to prepare our puppies for going home to their families who likely make noise in their home. We want to do every little thing we can that will make the transition as smooth as possible and helping them adjust to these noises makes a big difference. When they are first whelped, they are in our bedroom which is kept dark and quiet. We keep them in there until their eyes and ears have been open for a few days, so that they can adjust to them while remaining in the dark and quiet. After adjusting to their new vision and hearing, we move them out to a corner in our dining room. This way, they are exposed to the light and the noise, but they are well-hidden behind the dining room table and have the security of the tall dining room furniture around them. This way, they are able to look around and explore without feeling afraid of these new experiences. After a couple weeks of adjustment, we then move them to their final location on the other side of the dining room table, into the foyer of our home. ADOPTION We are always rotating in and out of puppy season, and we may or may not have any litters at a given time. You can check out our website, which we try to keep accurate with our most current litters, or those on the way. You can find this information on our website at https://www.redbarncavaliers.com by navigating to 'Upcoming Litters.' As a general practice, we do not begin accepting deposits until our puppies are 4 weeks old. When we do, we accept deposits for puppies on a first come, first serve basis, to families who have reached out to us and provided to 2 personal references. As of this writing, we are expecting 4 litters the end of May & beginning of June (2025). AUDIO We turn on the microphone when puppies are awake or when we wake them to do something like eat or see their mom. If the audio is off, please be patient - we will turn it back on! If they are asleep, check back in 30 minutes and we might have them up doing something or they may have woken up to play. If we take the puppies outside or on some type of "field trip" from their pen (which we begin doing more of at this age) during this time, we will let you know when to expect them back. https://www.redbarncavaliers.com Instagram: RedBarnCavaliers Twitter: @RedBarnCavs
