Planting a Pear Tree Guild | Growing Food Naturally and Sustainably

A guild is a community of plants that support each other by building and improving soil through nutrient recycling, providing shade, conserving water, preventing erosion, attracting beneficial insects and repelling pests and diseases. In a food forest, guilds provide food and medicine for us and a diverse ecosystem for wildlife. In this guild, I plant a bosc pear as the primary tree, yarrow for fixing nitrogen in the soil, lavender for feeding beneficial insects and repelling pests, St. John's Wort for shade and insects, blackberries for food and comfrey for mulch and for mining minerals from deep underground.
