Explore this 13.7-km out-and-back trail near Dunmakeever / Derrynananta, County Cavan. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 19 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through May. This is a brilliant route up Cuilcagh which first takes you over Ben Beg mountain. Tends to be much quieter than the main boardwalk. Parking is available at the side of the R200. The zigzagged gravel track gradually gets steeper towards the signal tower where you will then meet a lightly trampled track to the top of Ben Beg. From here the track becomes more visible. It’s then a long C-shaped ridge walk to the summit of Cuilcagh. The views from the top of the peak make it well worth it the effort
