1: Old Silent Hill (0:00) 2: School (7:47) 3: Alternative School (23:50) 4: Church (36:29) 5: Hospital (47:58) 6: Alternative Hospital (55:25) 7: Other Church (1:11:34) 8: Sewers (1:32:13) 9: Resort Area (1:44:08) 10: Amusement Park (2:02:03) 11: Nowhere (2:13:48) 12: Finale #1 (2:26:14) I figured we revisit a Silent Hill map during spooky season! Also, I only played 1 finale this time since I already played all 4 of them in the first gameplay in the description While this map was very ambitious and atmospheric, the lack of supplies and inconsistent balance made it a frustrating experience. The recurring issue was there being little to no supplies in the safezones. There was maybe a pistol or magnum, but we had to scavenge for kits and pills throughout the chapters like headless chickens. Besides the finales, the only exceptions were the 2nd and 5th chapters. We actually got 4 medkits inside the safezone at the beginning of the 2nd chapter, hallelujah! The 5th chapter might look as scarce as the others at first but there were kits and defibrillators on the sides of the bridge near the beginning. Both of these chapters were definitely my favorites for that advantage alone. The rest of the map suffered from the scarcity and kept us from fully enjoying the atmosphere. The 7th chapter was borderline evil because not only were the supplies scarce, but there were some items on pipes that pushed us off to our deaths. This was also the longest chapter with 2 scripted tanks! It was an abrupt leap in difficulty compared to the rest of the map. Regarding bot nav, there weren't too many issues in most of the map, but the 8th, 10th and 11th chapters were maddening because of the long ladders. Many times, the bots fell to their deaths trying to climb down them. As for the puzzles, they might be confusing at first and turning on game instructor is definitely recommended if playing these Silent Hill and Resident Evil maps for the first time, but they're executed well enough. A lot of players, including me, aren't big fans of these kinds of puzzles in custom maps since L4D wasn't meant to be a puzzle game, but they don't make the map worse depending on how they're executed. I keep an open mind when I'm rating puzzle maps like this since they're very different from the usual L4D experience, and the puzzles here are great recreations of the original game. Unfortunately, the worst puzzle, in my opinion, was in the 1st chapter. Like Silent Hill: Otherside of Life, there were keys scattered around the open-ended layout of this chapter with hard-to-follow directions. The original Silent Hill gave more feedback throughout the area with cutscenes, dialogue, and a map that you could carry and check on the go. In this port's case, however, we could only rely on looking at the occasional maps on the intersections without being able to hold them. As a result, it's much easier to get lost in this version. However, this was still better than Otherside (Enhanced) because the keys were at least in the same places every time instead of RNG. And once you get past the 1st chapter, the rest of the puzzles are in small indoor areas, making them less overwhelming to figure out. Overall, this map has so much potential to be closer to an 8/10. The music and sound effects from the original game were used very well here. The biggest strength in this port was definitely the atmosphere, even in the weaker chapters. The 2nd and 5th chapters are 8's, but the rest of the chapters, including all the finales, are 7.5's due to the stingy supplies. On average of all 15 chapters, this map is a 7.567/10. Although it's flawed, it's a very faithful port of the original Silent Hill, and I hope the author continues improving this map in the future : ) The Halloween survivors aren’t from the map.
