ECOREGIONS OF CALIFORNIA - Central Valley to Northern Sierran Foothills

Starting in the Central Valley near Sacramento, we drive eastward into the Northern Sierra Foothills of Amador County. The terrain starts as flat farmland, then changes to terraces, and then to foothills covered in oak savannah. In this video, we start in ecoregion called Northern Terraces (7a), transition into the foothills regions at the Camanche Terraces (6d), and finally cross into the Northern Sierran Foothills (6b) in Amador County. Elevation increases from about 125ft to 1300ft. I find the dramatic change in vegetation, temperature, and geology fascinating. I find California is especially interesting due to its amazing diversity of landforms, climate, and vegetation across relatively short distances.
