Vegueros Entretiempos - Cigar Review No.36: After the original Vegueros cigar line was discontinued in 2012, few likely thought that the brand would be making a comeback. Yet by 2013, Habanos SA had announced the planned re-release of the Vegueros brand, albeit completely revamped, blend and all. When Vegueros became available as part of the Cuban cigar lineup once again, it was unrecognizable in comparison to its former self. A tin replaced what was once a dress box, complete with fresh new graphics and a new brands logo. The vitolas had changed from the original four (which included Laguito No.1 and No.2 shapes) to three brand new vitolas, including a petite piramides shape. The bands had been changed to ones designed with a modern motif. In fact, trust me when I say, bands like these have absolutely never been seen on a Cuban cigar before - ever. They bear much more of a semblance to those found on American market cigars. With box, bands, sizes, logo and artwork of the Vegueros brand completely changed, there's really not much more one can do to make a completely different cigar but for changing the blend... Well, they did that too. What was once considered a blend on the full bodied side is now a medium bodied blend - which, to me, is a shame. Over half of today's Cuban cigar brands are "medium bodied," with most of the rest being more mild. Full bodied Cuban cigars are few and far between. Regardless, the new Vegueros is now a medium bodied cigar. In essence, I have to wonder why they didn't just create a brand new cigar line rather than keep the Vegueros name, which was never very popular in the first place! I mean, this is not the same cigar in any way, from the surface to the core, so why insist on calling it, "Vegueros?" Truthfully, I don't know.
