A virtual tour of Ballyadams castle, south-east Laois, created for Heritage Week 2020. Presented by Sean Murray, and filmed by Eoin Cahill, Laois Heritage Society. The film explores the 15th century castle and a later 17th century fortified house, as well as the inhabitants of the Castle. These include the 16th century constable John Bowen, known as "John of the Pike" or 'Séan a' Phíce' because of his habit of attacking locals with a pike. The nearby church contains the 17th century effigy tomb of John Bowen's son Robert Bowen and his wife Alice Harpole, erected in 1631 by their sons. The Church site itself is associated with St. MacAedh who was an Early Medieval saint in Ireland famed for his many cures (6th Century A.D). There are two holy wells to the west of the site. Tobernasool and Toberneebe the former being associated with cures for the eye. For more on the site see http://laoisarchaeology.ie/bowen-effi....
