Footage Emerges of Violent Prison Breakout During M23's Capture of Goma

Details of atrocities are emerging after M23 rebels captured the city of Goma in eastern DR Congo. Hundreds of women were raped and burned alive during a prison break last week. The attack happened inside Goma’s Munzenze prison after Rwandan-backed rebels entered the city. The female wing was set on fire while thousands of male prisoners managed to escape. Footage shows inmates fleeing as smoke rises and heavy gunfire can be heard in the background. Goma, a city of over a million people, was plunged into chaos after M23’s rapid advance. Missiles were reportedly seen flying over residential areas as bodies lay uncollected in the streets. On Tuesday, officials confirmed around 2,000 bodies were still awaiting burial in Goma.
