The Six Enneads. By Plotinus. Full Audiobook "The Six Enneads" is a collection of writings by the philosopher Plotinus, compiled and edited by his student Porphyry. The collection consists of 54 treatises, which are divided into six groups of nine, or "Enneads". The Enneads cover a wide range of topics, including metaphysics, ethics, epistemology, and theology. The first Ennead deals with human or ethical topics, while the second and third Enneads are mostly devoted to cosmological subjects or physical reality. The fourth Ennead concerns the soul, the fifth knowledge and intelligible reality, and finally, the sixth covers being and what is above it, the One or first principle of all . Plotinus believed that the source of creation was a supreme "One" that transcended being, non-being, multiplicity, and division. He believed that the universe was a hierarchy of beings, with the One at the top, followed by the divine Intellect, the soul, and finally, the material world . The Enneads have had a significant influence on Western and Near-Eastern thought, through Augustine of Hippo, the Cappadocian Fathers, Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, and several subsequent Christian and Muslim thinkers . The Enneads have also been a source of inspiration for many artists, writers, and poets, including William Butler Yeats, T.S. Eliot, and W.B. Stanford .
