Last week, residents of Evergreen Mobile Home Park in Windsor, CA won their fight to stop a huge rent increase and threats of closure by a corporate landlord. The landlord’s proposed $650 per month rent increase would have left many in this community of retirees and working families at risk of homelessness. With legal assistance from CRLA and Legal Aid of Sonoma County and support from North Bay Organizing Project, residents persevered through the complicated process to enforce their rights. Together they succeeded in negotiating their monthly rent increase to just $4.15. Their experience reflects a pattern happening in mobile home parks across the United States and across California. CRLA's civil legal services support rural California residents to preserve their homeownership and protect the communities where they live.
