Jack Kelly has been on my radar since his Weber State days, where his pass-rush instincts, disruption rate, and overall defensive impact consistently jumped off the tape. That evaluation only strengthened when studying BYU’s front, even while keying on Tyler Batty, Kelly repeatedly flashed as a secondary stressor who tilted protections, closed space violently, and created negative plays from multiple alignments. Now, after a true Power-4 breakout in 2024, Kelly has taken another clear step forward in 2025. At 6’1”–6’2”, ~240 lbs, Kelly brings a compact, well-distributed frame that allows him to function as a hybrid linebacker/edge. He has the bulk to survive in early-down responsibilities, but he carries it with burst and closing speed that shows up immediately in blitz timing and chase situations. His first-step acceleration and downhill trigger are legitimate stress creators. He’s a true chaos player — a “Vortex” linebacker who compresses space and forces quarterbacks off their launch points. After a strong Senior Bowl showing, he’s no longer a true sleeper. Day 3 value makes sense, especially if testing confirms his explosiveness. At minimum, you’re drafting a core special teamer with 15–25 snap sub-package upside, and a developmental path toward rotational linebacker duties.
