Nineteen bodies have been recovered from the Lobohombo nightclub, where at least 24 others were injured in the blaze. The cause wasn't immediately known, but firefighters said witnesses reported hearing several explosions. Workers were still searching the nightclub in Mexico City at mid morning on Friday. Police and firefighters blocked off traffic in both directions in front of the nightclub. The club, which had a large, mirrored facade, was one of the city's best-known nightclubs and was sometimes rented for parties by celebrities. While the club normally closes at 4 o'clock in the morning, local radio stations said some customers were just leaving as the fire broke out at about 5 a-m. A doctor said 19 bodies had already been recovered from the Lobohombo nightclub. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "We have taken out nineteen bodies, but we still waiting to see if there are more." SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop A spokeswoman for the borough where the nightclub is located said city officials had repeatedly clashed with the club's owner in the courts. She said earlier this year officials ordered the club to close because it didn't have a permit for table dancing, although the owner had obtained a federal court injunction to stay open. But a lawyer for the club owner said city officials had inspected and approved the club in June.
