This is an excerpt from my documentary featurette https://www.createspace.com/250032 about British born painter and sculptor Malcolm Morley. Although Morley is well known in the art world as a skilled innovator and provocateur, his name generally draws a blank with the public. He was influenced early on by Abstract Expressionist Barnett Newman, was a contemporary of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and was a mentor of sorts to the post-punk 80's downtown art scene (Basquiat, Schnabel)... This film emerged from a project that I later abandoned about Bellport, a suburb of NYC where I first met Malcolm and where we were neighbors and became friends. Before I filmed him, I knew of his reputation as an enfant terrible (he once protested the auction of one of his painting by nailing a water pistol to it) and his antagonistic relationship with the press (he had previously tossed a German film crew out of his studio), but I have always found him warm, congenial and open and the time I spent with him filming this project was no exception.
