Some of the topics discussed on Episode 14 of the County Councillors Caucus Roundtable: • Shop front grant scheme and how they can assist local businesses but at the same time insuring councils are not putting local business under pressure to have more expensive signage, especially new start-ups. • Tullamore the largest town in Offaly is doing survey about affordable housing schemes. We ask what an affordable price of a home is now in current climate in Ireland. • As large parts of the country have experienced awful flooding recently, the conditions of the road network is becoming a big issue due to rising costs of maintaining roads. This will require significant extra funding to repair the damage that has taken place and into the future. • How the people of Enniscorthy who's homes and businesses were destroyed once again by flooding, need real action by Government on flood defences after years of inaction and delays. • The role of our rural local pub was discussed and how they can diversify to remain part of the community. This a big issue for young people as number of places for young people to go has reduced a lot in recent years. • The Tenancy rules which come into effect from 1st March and that will have impacts for good and for the challenge for people living in rental accommodation. • We also pay a special tribute and thanks to the many emergency services and council workers who went above and beyond to protect people's homes during the flooding in County Wexford in recent days. The unsung hero’s in our local communities.
