“Driver Inc.” isn’t a provincial problem — it’s a national failure. One that has been festering for nearly a decade — costing billions in lost tax revenue, fuelling fraudulent, even criminal, behaviour that is unfair to legitimate hardworking trucking businesses and, most importantly, putting motorists lives at risk on our highways because of improperly trained and licensed drivers. At the Transportation Committee, the Ontario trucking Association was clear: provinces and municipalities cannot fix this alone. Without federal enforcement, bad actors just move to the next province and keep operating. As one witness put it, restoring law and order in trucking requires: • national enforcement alignment • real data-sharing • boots on the ground • and federal support — now, not later! Talking isn’t enough. The tools exist. The question is whether Ottawa is willing to use them.
