A playthrough of the hidden character Meat in Midway’s/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Back when I covered MK Gold, I didn’t cover Meat. Why? Well, he’s more of an Easter egg than a secret character. By meeting certain requirements, your character model would change to that of a skinless corpse used for one of the fatalities. He took on the moves of your character, and didn’t even have a name to distinguish him as Meat. Meat was little more than an Easter egg. Meat returns as the easiest hidden character in the game to acquire, requiring the player find ten relics in Konquest Mode. And it’s pretty easy to see why, too. I wouldn’t call Meat the joke character of the game (that’s still Mokap, I suppose), but he’s not too far from it. He has two fighting styles, one of which is a wrastlin’ fighting style, and the other is a weapon style where he uses dual cleavers. Cause, you know, meat, cleavers, that whole connection. His wrestling fighting style is actually pretty decent. A few core combos, which work pretty well, but the most interesting part is that some of his throws execute special air juggles. These aren’t the typical air juggles we’ve seen before however; Meat can actually jump up to the thrown opponent and execute a special combo while they’re in the air, rather akin to the Marvel vs. series. His meat cleavers have the (back+square, back+triangle) combo I adored back in both Deadly Alliance and Deception, although it’s been pretty nerfed. That said, some of his cleaver combos can do 30+% damage, meaning he’s nothing to scoff at. In terms of special moves however, well, he’s not the best. His moveset actually seems to be a bit of a parody of Blaze’s, as he has Blaze’s teleport and health-recovering moves. He also has a decent slide move, as well as a heads (will) roll move. Pity he doesn’t have a fatality which forces the opponent to dance til they're dead. In addition to what I said last type about recycled elements, you’ll probably notice that this game borrows the arcade ladder design from Unchained. What’s more, every single ending is just the character you completed the game with martial arts showcase while the narrator reads the ending. Yep, not even any still pictures. That’s how low they had to go. Makes you wonder why they even bothered. Also, Blaze is a pretty awful boss it must be said, but if you keep spamming him with quick attacks then you’ll probably win. Riveting. On the whole, Meat is serviceable, but by no means are you missing out by not playing as him. He definitely makes for a good hidden, but other than that there’s not much point using an intentionally botched character in a game with this much variety and choice.
