Hey everyone and welcome back to my channel💕 This video was highly requested as a lot of my subscribers and followers are HS and college students, and have yet to be exposed to the different specialties in medicine! This is just a brief overview of the most common surgical doctor specialties in medicine, discussing what they primarily focus on. My next video will cover the remaining popular specialties like pediatrics, radiology, emergency medicine, etc. The road to becoming any type of physician is the same for the premed and medical school years. Some specialties are more competitive than others, which require medical students to perform extremely well on STEP exams, seek research opportunites in medical school with efforts to be published, as well as complete specialty specific elective rotations for exposure and possibly strong letters of recommendation that can support their application. Please note that there may be several ways to become a certain type of surgical physician that specializes in a certain area. Generally, there are two main pathways: 1. Traditional: Complete a 5 year general suregry program and then complete a fellowship to subspecialize or additional residency to pratice in a field other than general surgery 2.
