WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2023 - At approximately 14:00 hours, firefighters from Montréal Fire Department (SIM) Station 55 responded to the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home at 222 Autoroute 20 in the Montréal suburb of Pointe-Claire after calls to 911 reported the presence of fire conditions at the property. Upon arrival at 14:05, firefighters confirmed the reported conditions and soon struck a first alarm (10-07), with the fire being upgraded to a second alarm (10-12) minutes later at 14:14. The structure, a single-story detached commercial building made of brick and wood, had been built in 1963 and had served as a funeral home since its construction. It has been entrenched as a landmark in the local community for many decades, having helped countless West Islanders grieve, reflect upon, and honour the memories of loved ones after their passing. Fire quickly spread to the rest of the structure via the roof, which became totally engulfed before collapsing in on itself. Firefighters utilized several ladder apparatus with water canons to fight the flames from the exterior of the building, but dared not attempt an interior attack due to the fire's rapid, overwhelming progression and for fear for their own safety. Over 100 firefighters in total were mobilized to respond to the blaze, which was only brought under control some three hours after the second alarm was struck. The Montréal Fire Department declared an end to the intervention at 20:55 the same day. No injuries have been reported, however the building is a total loss. MERCREDI LE 8 NOVEMBRE 2023 - Vers 14h00, les pompiers de la caserne 55 du Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) ont répondu à la Maison funéraire Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, située au 222, autoroute 20, dans la banlieue montréalaise de Pointe-Claire, après le signalement au 911 de la présence de conditions d'incendie dans le bâtiment. À leur arrivée à 14h05, les pompiers ont confirmé les conditions signalées et ont rapidement déclenché une première alarme (10-07), l'incendie étant passé à une deuxième alarme (10-12) plusieurs minutes plus tard à 14h14. La structure, un bâtiment commercial détaché d'un étage en brique et en bois, avait été construite en 1963 et servait de salon funéraire depuis sa construction. Il constitue un point d'intérêt dans la communauté locale depuis de nombreuses décennies, ayant aidé d'innombrables citoyens de l'Ouest-de-l'Île à pleurer, à réfléchir et à honorer la mémoire de leurs proches après leur décès. Le feu s'est rapidement propagé au reste de la structure via la toiture, qui a été totalement engloutie avant de s'effondrer sur elle-même. Les pompiers ont utilisé plusieurs échelles aériennes équipées de canons à eau pour combattre les flammes depuis l'extérieur du bâtiment, mais n'ont pas osé tenter une attaque à l'intérieur en raison de la progression rapide et écrasante de l'incendie et par crainte pour leur propre sécurité. Au total, plus de 100 pompiers ont été mobilisés pour répondre à l'incendie, qui n'a été maîtrisé que trois heures après le déclenchement de la deuxième alarme. Le Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal a déclaré la fin de l'intervention à 20h55 le même jour. Aucun blessé n'a été signalé, mais le bâtiment est une perte totale.
