Making a historically inspired cape

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! As I was walking out of my local fabric shop a few months ago, I saw this lovely end of bolt cut of red wine velvet. I think it was actually from the upholstery section. I snatched it immediately because I loved the weight, colour and the shine. I thought it would make a great 1890s cape. However, when researching 1890s cape, I realized I probably wouldn't have the guts to wear something like that outside (at least just yet!). So I bought some simple(ish) trims and decided to make alterations to the design so it was less... extra. So this is mostly a historically inspired cape rather than decade specific. I'm actually pretty happy with the outcome and I enjoyed the project! It was great to have so much handsewing during the Christmas period so I could evolve into my true form, the couch potato. I also feel great with it on and I hope to wear it outside soon! Something I didn't mention in the video is that because of the way the lining was put in, the cape is actually fully reversible, so I can go with the plain brown wool too. I mentioned my thread advent calendar, as I used that thread to handsew the trims on.
