Cornesha Elliott developed a stumble while walking and knew something wasn't right. She went to the emergency room and was later diagnosed with a Chiari malformation, which occurs when part of the brain at the back of the skull bulges through a normal opening in the skull where it joins the spinal canal, as defined by Johns Hopkins Medicine. This puts pressure on parts of the brain and spinal cord causing mild to severe symptoms. She underwent surgery to remove part of her spine so her brain would "have somewhere to go." After healing, Cornesha went to Sheltering Arms Institute for inpatient rehabilitation and continued her progress at Sheltering Arms outpatient center in Hanover. Cornesha's balance has greatly improved and she says, "the progress is a mile long. I've never done the same thing in one day. It's the inspiration of people believing in me that made me believe in myself."
