Relax and listen to the sound of the Atlantic waves as I explore the lost village of Courtaparteen. A sacred place...Courtaparteen, near Kinsale, Co. Cork, is said to be an abandoned Famine village, dating back to the 7th century. In total, there are the ruins of 9 houses here. According to locals, although it's known as a famine village, the last people to leave here left in the 1950s. Next to the village are the ruins of a medieval church (the old parish church of Kilrone) and a graveyard. The oldest headstone here dates from the 1700s. There are many small unnamed graves here. I found this place peaceful, and I drifted away, wondering what life would have been like here in this little community.
