DIY Modern Farmhouse Sliding Barn Door || How To Build - Woodworking

Article 🡆 www.bevelishcreations.com Hey what's up guys? This sliding barn door is a very simple DIY project with a modern and industrial twist. It is also pretty special to me, but couldn't find a good way to explain in the voiceover for the video, so I'll write it in here. My wife and I bought our first house 5 years ago, the model house had french doors that led from the master bedroom to the master bathroom. We were already at the top of our budget, and the builder told us that if we don't choose the french door option, we'll have a regular door in its place. After the house was completed, there was no door at all! We didn't have any written confirmation from the builder, and the company was being bought out by a bigger company. Anyway, we were left with this awkward opening. We didn't really mind it in terms of privacy, but the problem was it was always cold after a hot shower during winter. So after 3 years, it got irritating enough that I decided to put up a barn door, but all the ones I liked were so expensive! I did the obvious thing...went on Youtube and learn how to build one myself. Armed with a circular saw, a router, and a Rockler dowel jig, I built a door very similar to this one out of construction grade pine from Home Depot. I didn't know anything about wood movement, how flexible pine was, and the wet conditions of pine from places like Home Depot and Lowe's. So, after a year, the door warped so much that it scraped the walls every time I opened and closed it. I knew I had to rebuild it, but I wanted to rebuild it with the same type of wood and same type of joinery. The biggest reason behind this project was to challenge myself and see if I could do everything to build the same door as before, but control the potential wood movement. Biggest difference was, I left the lumber stickered in my house for an entire 6 months to dry out and acclimate. In a way, the first door failed in terms of quality, but it gave me a sense of confidence to ask myself, "I really like this! What else can I build with these tools?"
