Mazda's US EV debut failed. With a 100-mile range, the MX-30 was sold solely in California for two years. The Japanese manufacturer unveiled a new electric sedan for China at the Beijing auto show, but it has not announced its plans for future American EVs. The EZ-6 seems like a rebirth of the 2021-deceased Mazda 6 automobile. We're also sad it won't be sold in the US. The Changan-developed EZ-6 will be sold in China before the end of the year. With long, narrow headlights that flow into a broad, squared-off grille, the electric vehicle is sleek and purposeful. The rear light bar has the round eye-like components of previous Mazdas and is full-width. A retractable wing above the taillight improves stability at high speeds. EZ-6 is one inch longer than the latest Mazda 6 car upon our shores. Rich materials and a 14.6-inch center touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster are in the EZ-6's interior. The center console is modest with a wireless charging station, two cupholders, and beautiful wood trim around the door window controls. Vents and haptic touch climate controls are in the back seat, and the infotainment system incorporates voice and gesture control. We don't know much about the EZ-6's electric engine, but its rear-wheel drive suggests a single electric motor. Mazda claims the EZ-6 features 50/50 weight distribution and front strut and rear multilink suspension. Mazda will market the EZ-6 as a plug-in hybrid with an electric drivetrain, but the engine was not disclosed. Mazda claims the EV can go 370 miles and the PHEV 620 miles on a tank. The EZ-6 has "intelligent parking technology" that can be voice-controlled outside the vehicle. Mazda also unveiled the Arata, a flamboyant SUV design that would be its second EV for China by 2025. The Arata's slim headlamps, blanked grille, and large slanted D-pillar make it beautiful, but the powertrain was not shown.
