When nature guides my brush, I’m not trying to paint something separate from myself. I’m listening. This video documents the creation of the first piece in my new series, Becoming Kin — a mixed media exploration of humans as part of the natural world, not above it and not outside it. The painting begins with moss. Here on the farm where I live, moss grows quietly across stone, soil, and wood. It survives heat, drought, and time. It softens what appears hard. It waits for rain and turns green again. In this piece, moss grows with the human figure. Not as decoration. Not as symbolism. But as companionship. This work explores the idea that humans are nature — one form of life among many, shaped by the same cycles of growth, rest, decay, and renewal. If you’re drawn to nature inspired art, mystical art, mixed media painting, slow art process, or art that explores the relationship between humans and the natural world, I’m glad you’re here. This is only the beginning of the Becoming Kin series. Thank you for witnessing this first step. We are one. ♥ Materials used: A3 Canson 300gm/m2 watercolour paper Acrylic paints, acrylic inks, texture paste Various mark making tools such as old credit card, handmade stencils, skewer, bubble wrap Music licensed with: https://www.epidemicsound.com IG: / studio_northbound FB: / studionorthbound #MixedMediaArt #NatureInspiredArt #HumanAndNature #MossArt #ArtProcess #ContemporaryArt #SlowArt #ArtSeries
