A Manchester Ghost story. The last of our Halloween instalments (I promise). A little tale I wrote based on the work of John Roby from his book “Traditions of Lancashire” 1872 a collection of Folk tales. This one tells the story of a Boggart, a type of malevolent creature in English folklore. One of the stories in this book is about how Boggart Hole Clough got its name. Boggart Hole Clough is a large woodland and urban country park in Blackley, a suburb of Manchester, England. I’m surprised that so many have not heard the legend of how the park got its strange name.
