Rijeka (Italian and Hungaria:Fiume, German: Sankt Veit am Flaum, Slovenian: Reka, Čakavica: Rika, Reka) is the largest Croatian port, the third largest city in Croatia and the administrative center of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The town of Rijeka with its surroundings (formerly the municipalities of Rijeka - Kastav, Viškovo, Grobnik, Kostrena, Bakar, Kraljevica, Klana) has 191,641 inhabitants. The Hungarian government, still in the 19th century, because of its ideal geographical position and depth of sea in the Kvarner Bay, has developed Rijeka into one of the largest European ports and a powerful industrial center. Rijeka was also significant as one of the most important financial centers of the former Yugoslavia.
