Beautiful, unusual, with interesting fruits! YOU CAN GROW an Arbutus STRAWBERRY TREE! The bark and blossoms of this tree are gorgeous, and the special fruit can be eaten fresh, used in smoothies, or enjoyed as a frozen treat. Plus, it makes delicious jam! (Recipes included below!) Strawberry Trees (Arbutus unedo and other varieties, aka Koumaria in Greece) are a fun tree to grow and add an interesting note to your landscape. And believe me, this is EASY GARDENING anyone can do. Fun fact -- the unripe strawberry fruit can cause nausea, while the overripe fruit can lead to mild intoxication! Hi, I'm Kim. Here are the simple Jam and Jelly recipes I promised you in the video. 😊 If YOU have any recipes using Strawberry Tree fruits, please share them in the Comments section below! **Koumara Jam** (aka, Strawberry Tree Fruit Jam) 1 lb Strawberry Tree Fruits 1/2 lb Sugar 2 oz Orange Liqueur Cinnamon, Ground Cloves, Nutmeg, and Vanilla - Optional Rinse fruits and boil gently with a very small amount of water (to prevent burning) until fruit is quite soft. Press through a mill (or with a wooden spoon). Reheat with sugar and liqueur, simmering until a drop on a cold plate creates a little mound. Stir in optional spices and vanilla, to taste. Cool before placing in jars. Refrigerate for up to one month or store in freezer. **Koumara Jelly* (aka, Strawberry Tree Fruit Jelly) Strawberry Tree Fruits Sugar Rinse fruits. Place in a pot and nearly cover with cold water. Cook on low for about 15 minutes. Press through a cheesecloth to extract as much liquid as possible. Weigh fruit and stir in the same amount of sugar. Simmer on low, stirring softly at times, until beads form on surface. Remove from heat and cool before placing in jars.
