This is supposed to be the cradle of agriculture for the world? When you drive on highway 58 in California, there’s that one part that you never forget. You’re in the area where it’s all desert and mountains and you come over a grade and transition to the central valley. Now, for more than 400 miles is a wide flat valley, home to more agriculture than any other state. This is the San Joaquin Valley - It’s an extremely profitable region that outranks countries like Canada, Mexico, Germany and Spain for produce. California’s central valley alone is in the top 10 in the world for agriculture. But there’s a struggle going on here as well. Many of the larger communities here are very poor and dangerous, and some of the smaller communities are home to some of the worst poverty in the nation. And you probably knew nothing about it.
