The Kerala Academy of Skills Excellence (KASE) has been set up as a nodal agency of the Kerala State Skill Development Mission under the Department of Labour and Skills to promote skill development activities in the state. KASE is aimed at building a market-relevant workforce by skilling the youth of Kerala to elevate them to global standards for employment in India and abroad. It is mandated to establish and regulate institutions and academies for skills excellence to enhance the capacity and compatibility of workers and ensure international mobility through technology and soft skill training. Construction is a crucial industry in India and likely in Kerala, creating jobs for a massive portion of the population, second after agriculture. This sector is booming due to a growing emphasis on infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, industrial zones, and housing projects. The period from 2012 to 2022 was expected to see a significant rise in demand for workers, with an estimated 33.9 lakh new jobs created. Thus, recognizing construction as a key sector with a projected surge in demand, KASE established the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) as its Centre Of Excellence (CoE), providing the best training in South India for skilling, upskilling and reskilling in the sector. KASE identified Asia’s largest construction cooperative, the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS ), to be the skilling partner of this Centre of Excellence. Being recognised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a model Cooperative, ULCCS is the only primary cooperative society in India to be a member of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). IIIC is an authorised Training Centre of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Training Partner ULCCS. Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC), an industry-driven skilling campus, is a unique model for skill development in the country. IIIC offers industry-aligned training programs that equip individuals with the necessary skills for success. It is emerging as a potential destination for unemployed youth to bridge their skill gap. IIIC offers customised and stakeholder-based managerial, supervisory and technician level courses in tune with the market demand. IIIC works through an academic-industry interface and is involved in bridging the gap between available skills and required skills among the educated youth. Moreover, the institute is mandated to facilitate opportunities for placement for trainees of the Technical, Supervisory and Managerial level programmes. Unlike any other skill training institute in south India, IIIC delivers skill training for a wide spectrum ranging from school dropouts to graduates and working professionals. IIIC ensures that our programs align with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), guaranteeing nationally recognised and standardised training. Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC), established in 9-acre land with state-of the-art campus at Chavara, Kollam district, Kerala, which is intended to provide the employability skills to the personnel in all cadres of the infrastructure and construction sector, from the lower level workers to supervisory and managerial level.
