This video demonstrates key learning steps of Corneal Laceration Repair They are as follows : 1. Thorough wash needed to remove debris and foreign bodies from the wound interface before repair 2. Evaluate the laceration as either lamellar (partial thickness) or full-thickness. 3. Use viscoelastic material to reform the anterior chamber and remove any iris tissue, membrane, or cortical matter from the wound. 4. Ensure the wound is sutured watertight. It should be free from any membranes or residual tissue. 5. Suturing Technique: • Sutures should penetrate 80–90% of the corneal depth. • Sutures must be tight, long, and equidistant from the wound. • Place sutures perpendicular to the tear to ensure optimal closure. • Avoid handling wound margins directly with forceps. • Place tight sutures, as they may loosen when corneal swelling decreases. 6. Suture placement details: • Tie sutures using the 3-2-1 knot pattern. • Place each loop perpendicular to the previous one. • Bury suture knots away from the pupil. • Maintain equal spacing from the posterior edge of the tear. • The first and second sutures should secure the tear ends, while the third anchors the middle. 7. Post-Suturing: • Check for leaks using a dry Merocel sponge after viscoelastic wash. • Apply a bandage contact lens (BCL) to protect the repair.
