Bent Frequency performance Amir Khalaf's Rib on our 23/24 Underscore_a call for scores concert on 3/2/24. Performed by: Sarah Kruser Ambrose, flute Tim Fitzgerald, clarinet Adelaide Federici, violin Jean Gay, cello Stuart Gerber, conductor Amir Khalaf writes the following about the work: The music is based on a poem that I wrote with the same name. Rib is a visual representation of the images and the events of the poem which is inspired by motion, nature, likeness and immature sound objects. I owned you; I owned nothing but you, we were one You and I, elevating, lights sparkle in our eyes Careless Seven doves surrounding, roaming, humming and singing You carry me I avoid looking at you I look at the sky Hesitant, imitating interest Muttering Trembling and frightened Terrified of fate We break through the clouds, approach the stars Pouring rain surrounding Invisible monkeys screaming flocks of birds squeaking croaking frogs jumping Water splashing in our faces We are speeding Close we are, you look at me and say, Get ready, my master, the time is now I veil, adorn, purify, and dress up for you Ready now I am. –Amir Khalaf Amir Khalaf, born in Cairo, Egypt.
