Bam Adebayo just delivered one of the most unbelievable performances in NBA history. In a March 10th matchup against the Washington Wizards, the Miami Heat star exploded for 83 points, officially recording the second-highest scoring game in NBA history. The only player to ever score more is Wilt Chamberlain with his legendary 100-point game in 1962. Adebayo finished the night with an incredible stat line: 83 Points 9 Rebounds 3 Assists 2 Steals 2 Blocks He shot 20/43 from the field, 7/22 from three, and 36/43 from the free throw line, setting new NBA records for both free throws made and free throw attempts in a single game. What makes this performance even more shocking is that Bam Adebayo has never been known as a high-volume scorer. Before this game, his career high was just 41 points, and he entered the night averaging 18.9 points per game this season. But with Tyler Herro and Norman Powell both ruled out, Adebayo took over the game from the very beginning — dropping 31 points in the first quarter alone. As the game went on and his point total climbed into the 70s, the final minutes turned chaotic. The Wizards began sending triple teams at Adebayo and even intentionally fouling other Heat players to keep the ball out of his hands. In response, the Miami Heat began intentionally fouling Washington to stop the clock and give Bam more possessions. That late-game strategy sparked controversy among fans, with some calling it stat-chasing and others arguing that when a player is that close to history, you let him go get it. With 1:16 remaining in the game, Adebayo stepped to the free throw line and knocked down two shots to reach 83 points, passing Kobe Bryant’s famous 81-point performance for the second-most points ever scored in an NBA game. Regardless of the controversy, one thing is certain: We just witnessed history.
