"The Promise" is a 1952 film (c50mins) about a Prison Welfare Worker (Mr Harker, played by Edward Underdown) who replaces a Mr Towsend who died suddenly. The new Mr Harker finds the pastorial support he offers to convicts and ex-offenders is not welcomed, and that he is unable to reach his clients with the depth of his predecessor. Through imagining the struggle of the disciples, he discovers a new faith and confidence based on scripture. Very strong religious themes here, and a very British feel of the time with smaller parts by quite a few famous names.
