There's Nothing New In Love (Carter, Levy, Maclean) - Herman Darewski and his Famous Melody Band With vocal chorus Recorded by Parlophone, London, 28 October, 1929 This Issue: Australian Parlophone No.A2939 Matrix: E-2827-2 Personnel: Herman Darewski, ldr / 2t / tb / 2 cl, ss, as / cl, ss, ts / 2-3 vn / Harry Green, p / bj / bb / d / unknown female vocalist Herman Darewski (1883-1947) was a Belarusian-born conductor and composer of light music mostly resident in London. "There's nothing new in love" featured in the futuristic 1929 British Gaumont film "High Treason". The film, originally silent but converted during production to sound, tells the story of a later major conflict taking place from the 1940's involving the world. (In a sense curiously accurate!) You can watch the full movie here: • Видео This song features at 19:27 onward. Of real interest is the fact that the film was based on a play by the famous (Or infamous) inventor, politician and aviator, Noel Pemberton Billing. It was also he that started the company that became famous for its "Spitfire" aircraft, "Supermarine". Among his many lifetime activities and of additional interest for Australians, it was Pemberton Billing who journeyed to Australia and in 1923 started the very first disc recording and pressing plant in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne. Noel Pemberton Billings life story is indeed an interesting and fulsome one and far too complicated to relate here! Apologies for noisy moments on the disc! Recorded and processed from an original vintage 78 record by myself.
