SBOM stands for Software Bill of Materials. Think of it like an ingredient list of all the individual software components that make up an application. Some liken an SBOM to a nutrition label where you can find all the elements that comprise a piece of software. This is especially important in the world of open source software so you can understand what is going into an application. Without that list of dependencies, libraries, licenses, etc., companies can't fully assess the risk they are taking on by using the software or know how to mitigate any security issues.
