The Sopranos "redefined family" from the second it aired - of course, according to YouTube videos like this one. While it was held in high regard from the very beginning, I believe the third season of HBO's iconic Sopranos is where the show truly developed a voice entirely of its own. Season 3 was unafraid to pose difficult questions to its viewers, new ways of understanding the characters we know and "love" - and why crucially, David Chase really hated you feeling that way. In this video, I explore the shifts in perspective Season 3 offers and how it creates a unique identity for the show that hasn't been topped. I also explore structural links to epic theatre, David Chase's contemporary view on the world he created, the history of 'quality television' leading up to Sopranos, the relationships to what came before, what the show did differently, and how it used those ideas to build towards creating something entirely new. We also talk a little bit about I, Claudius. But never enough! ===== FOR MORE BONUS CONTENT, head on over to / byronlewis Part 1 covers themes explored in episodes 1-6 of Season 3.
