The Bhils were known for their warrior culture and resistance to foreign invaders, especially the British colonial forces. In 1913, the Mangadh Massacre occurred, a pivotal event in Bhil history. The massacre took place near Mangadh, in the border area of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, when Bhils, led by the prominent leader Gandhi and others, rose up against the oppressive British rule. The British authorities had been imposing harsh taxes and land policies that severely affected the Bhil tribes. The Bhils, who had long maintained their own land and customs, were now under the threat of colonial exploitation. As part of their revolt, the Bhils gathered at Mangadh Hill to resist British domination. However, British forces ambushed the assembly, resulting in a brutal massacre. The Bhil people were killed in large numbers, and the incident is seen as one of the earliest and most tragic expressions of indigenous resistance against colonialism in India. The Mangadh Massacre became a symbol of Bhil resistance and indigenous people's struggles during British colonialism. The Bhils and their leaders were not only fighting against the British but also for their rights, dignity, and freedom. The massacre, though tragic, is now remembered as a significant moment in the tribal freedom movement of India.
