Having had a Porsche in the garage for many years, when I took delivery of my GT3, one of my wishes for this car was a road trip to Germany to take it on the Autobahn on an unrestricted section. Having also watched many a Top Gear and marvelled at the amazing Sabine Schmitz, flying round the Nürburgring in a Ford Transit, and more recently the talented Misha Charoudin, this was quickly added to my bucket list wishes. A Porsche 911 has always been more than just a car, it’s a piece of art. My GT3 sat in the garage like a coiled spring. It’s a black beast, sleek, serious, and patiently waiting for a chance to hit the road and stretch her legs. One day, after a race weekend, the Mrs and I were chatting, and she said, we have a week, let's go and take the GT3 to the Nürburgring. We looked at the various route options and decided on a drive to Germany with a night in Ghent, the next day head to Nürburgring to conquer the Nordschleife (Green Hell). We then head to Munich to stay in a unique hotel with a room for the GT3, after seeing an episode of ‘Seen Through Glass’. We then decided we could follow some of the Romantic Road and finish with a night in Luxembourg, then home. We finished some work in the morning, packed and headed to Folkestone to get on the Eurotunnel around lunchtime, as the stop in Ghent wasn’t that far from Calais. The weather was great for the time of year, dry and blue skies, utterly perfect. By the afternoon, the GT3 was singing through northern France. The first night was a stay in the Van der Valk on the outskirts of Ghent. We like the Van der Valk hotels and have stayed in one a few times when we have gone to WSBK in Assen. We have chosen all our hotels with two things in mind. A spa and secure underground parking. Pampering for us and the GT3! We decided as we were getting to Ghent later in the day, we would stay in one close to the main route we were taking, rather than within the town. It was perfect for us, sipping on Belgian beer and already feeling the pull of the road ahead, it was an early night for us. Next stop: Nürburg. The autobahn welcomed the GT3 like an old friend. Speed limits faded, and the Porsche came alive, it’s flat-six engine howling with joy. Hitting 180mph just felt wrong but so good. Especially being stopped in Belgium for doing 81mph in a 75mph limit! We arrived at the Lindner Hotel Nürburgring Congress with a reserved parking spot, being a nice touch. Enjoyed a few beers, some food and a wander round the centre next door with coffee shops, multiple motorsport shops and race simulators on hand. It was rude not to have a couple of hot laps round the ring, in preparation for the following day. I didn’t set records, and I wasn’t chasing a time. But the two laps around the Green Hell were pure adrenaline, each corner a challenge, each straight an open invitation. The Mrs joined me for a lap and then suggested I go round on my own. As I pulled off the track after my second lap I realised “That was it. That’s the dream.” The following day we headed to Munich which brought a slower rhythm but still a few unrestricted sections provided a buzz and the road tugged again. We arrived at the Ameron München Motorworld and were directed to our Car Studio Room. There are only two rooms for cars and one for a motorbike. The Motorworld location was amazing, wandering round looking at supercars old and new. We enjoyed a fabulous meal in the evening, ready for the next day to follow some of the Romantic Road. The Romantic Road is a route winding through storybook towns of Rothenburg, Dinkelsbühl, and Füssen. Each one offered cobbled streets, timbered houses, and the feeling of stepping back in time. We didn’t rush. The GT3 purred gently through the countryside like it, too, was enjoying the slower pace. The final night was in Luxembourg. We stayed at the Melia INNSiDE Luxemboug, again safe underground parking for the Bavarian Beast and a fabulous meal and a few glasses of wine. A perfect end to a perfect few days. Staring at the GT3 the next morning I realised something: this wasn’t about ticking off boxes. It was about motion, connection and the deep hum of purpose only the open road can bring. By the time we boarded the train home, the car was dusty, utterly bug splatted, the tires worn, and I was content. Some dreams are loud. Others, like this one, are the sound of a Porsche GT3 at full throttle (and believe me, she’s a screamer) beneath a sky without limits. Thanks for joining us on our journey and welcome to our channel.
