Personification Giving human qualities to non-living things. • “A roadside stand that too pathetically pled” → The stand is shown as pleading like a human. • “The sadness that lurks behind the open window there” → Sadness is shown as if it can hide or move. ✨ 2. Metaphor An indirect comparison. • “The flower of cities” → Cities are compared to flowers (symbol of prosperity and beauty). • “Trusting sorrow” → Sorrow is described as trusting, symbolizing innocent rural people. ✨ 3.
