Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in Teens Description: While historically seen as a disorder that could only be identified and treated in adults, research over the last several decades has shown that Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can emerge in the teen years and that early detection and intervention can improve outcomes. Still, many treatment providers remain hesitant to diagnose BPD in adolescents, often due to continued stigma and misunderstanding about the disorder. In the spirit of these challenges, this webinar seeks to provide stigma-reducing education on BPD, clarity about how it may present in adolescents, as well as tips for how to seek accurate diagnosis and treatment. ⏰ Chapters: 00:00 - About the Presenter 03:10 - What You Will Learn About Borderline Personality Disorder 04:43 - May is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Awareness Month 05:35 - What is Borderline Personality Disorder? 07:23 - What is Emotion Regulation? 10:41 - What is High Emotion Sensitivity? 12:49 - What Does It Feel Like To Have Borderline Personality Disorder? 14:27 - What Can Cause Borderline Personality Disorder in teens ? 17:39 - The Criteria for BPD 22:14 - How Does BPD Present In Teens? 25:26 -Typical Teen Behavior vs Atypical 28:50 - Misconceptions About Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) 33:13 - The Reality of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) 37:35 - Can Teens Be Diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)? 39:10 - What Does Current Research Say About BPD?— 41:06 - Why Diagnose BPD In Teens? 43:00 - What Can You Do About Your Loved One With BPD? 45:18 - Common BPD Misdiagnosis 47:33 - Effective Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder 48:37 - BPD Resources Presented by: Alyson Orcena, LMFT Chief Clinical Officer, Evolve Adolescent Behavioral Health Alyson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of clinical experience in a variety of settings, including residential treatment, private practice, and community-based mental health.
