Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale is an Imperial Coffee Milk Stout that is an expanded recipe of their popular Coffehouse Stout. Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale is aged in Bourbon BBLs and clocks in at 8% ABV. Alewerks describes Cafe Royale as follows: ""This is our Coffeehouse Stout amped up to 8% abv and aged for a couple of months in Virginia Gentleman Reserve Bourbon Barrels. Another unique AleWerks beer which blends the rich, coffee-milk stout flavors with those of vanilla and bourbon."" Lets see if the beer lives up to their short but succinct prose. Enjoy the review..... Written review follows: Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale - Barrel Aged Milk Stout WRITTEN REVIEW: A: Alewerks Cafe Royale pours very dark brown, with just the slightest hint of red at the edges. No light actually penetrates the body of the beer. A quickly forming and fairly long lasting 1.5 to 2 finger head tops the brew. As it dissipates some decent glass lacing and alcohol legs are left behind. S: Coffee up in your face followed by Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak, dark roasted malt and lactose sweetness. The aroma is very reminiscent of their Coffeehouse Stout just more pronounced and laced with Bourbon and barrel aging aromas. T: As in the nose, coffee up in your face followed by a decent amount of Bourbon. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla, oak, dark roasted malt and lactose sweetness make for a lovely flavor combination. The taste is very reminiscent of their Coffeehouse Stout just more pronounced and laced with Bourbon and barrel aging aromas. M: Medium-full, smooth, creamy, and chewy. Super easy to drink for an 8.0% ABV beer. About as good as it gets for this style. O: Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale is the best beer I'vet had so far from this brewery. In a nutshell its a desert in a bottle much like their Coffeehouse Stout. This is a beer that I recommend, have bought and will buy this beer again. Its reasonably priced for what it is and delivers exactly as advertised on the label.
