Why Has The World Hated Jews For More Than 2000 Years? The hostility towards Jews throughout history does not have a single cause, but arises from a combination of religious, economic, social, and political factors that were repeated in different eras and cultures. In antiquity, Jews were seen as a different people for maintaining their own laws, customs, and monotheistic religion in a predominantly polytheistic world. This difference generated mistrust, especially in empires like the Roman one, where they were perceived as reluctant to fully integrate into the dominant society. During the Middle Ages, antisemitism acquired a strong religious component. In Christian Europe, Jews were accused of being responsible for the death of Jesus, which led to centuries of persecution and marginalization. They were expelled from many countries, forced to live in ghettos and to perform limited trades, such as money lending, a frowned-upon but necessary activity, which earned them even more resentment. In times of crisis, such as the Black Death, they were falsely blamed for poisoning wells or causing misfortunes, fanning popular hatred. Over time, antisemitism adopted more modern forms. In the 19th and 20th centuries, racist theories emerged that described Jews as an "inferior race" or as conspirators who controlled the economy and the media. These ideas were driven by emerging nationalisms that saw Jews as an internal enemy. The most tragic result of this thinking was the Holocaust, where six million Jews were exterminated by the Nazi regime in a systematic attempt to erase their existence in Europe. Today, antisemitism has not completely disappeared, and continues to manifest itself in hate speech, acts of violence, and conspiracy theories. Understanding the historical roots of this phenomenon is fundamental to combating it. Hatred towards Jews is not based on facts, but on prejudices and irrational fears that have been perpetuated for centuries. Only through education, memory, and dialogue can a more just and intolerance-free society be built. Welcome to The Kommandant, where you'll delve into exclusive documentaries on the Second World War.
