Unforgiveness is the state of holding onto resentment, bitterness, or anger towards someone who has wronged or hurt you. It occurs when a person is unwilling or unable to let go of past offenses, often leading to emotional, mental, and even spiritual consequences. Unforgiveness creates a heavy burden that affects both the person holding it and their relationships. Spiritually, unforgiveness is detrimental because it blocks the flow of God’s grace and forgiveness in one’s life. In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches that we must forgive others if we want to receive forgiveness from God. Holding onto unforgiveness can result in a hardened heart, where bitterness takes root and grows. It prevents true healing and restoration, keeping both the offended and the offender from experiencing reconciliation.
