The latest episode from Clayton le Moors takes us from 6.00am to 11.00am and is set about June 1968. Clayton le Moors in early morning is very busy, but things quieten down a lot later. There are still many steam hauled trains but the diesels are creeping in a bit more. The Bradford to Blackpool is now a BRCW diesel unit – an improved Hornby model – taking happy holidaymakers to the seaside. In 1968 this was the only regular daily passenger train over the Copy Pit route.. The 8.00am passenger to Manchester Victoria is still steam hauled by a black 5. This is a bit of a fantasy, though passenger trains from Manchester the “Belfast Boat Express” was steam hauled until May and 1P58 to Blackpool lasted until the end of July. There are two parcels trains from Manchester and Preston, which are remarshalled to go on to Barrowford. An empty coal train is collected from Whitebirk and proceeds back to Yorkshire and there are a few more freight trains including an empty spoil train inspired by the last steam duty at Rose Grove on Sunday 4th August 1968. I hope the endless manouevrings of the Cravens DMU are not too boring!! The four episodes for 1968 now cover the entire day’s workings and (I hope) the loco rosters are worked out to be realistic, though I have used more locos than strictly necessary for a bit of variety, so they do not show just one day’s workings.. Hope you enjoy watching. Thanks for all your kind comments in the past – your views are very welcome, and criticisms would help me to improve!! I’ve also used a different camera so I’m hoping the results will be OK.
