Carolyn Hester is an American folk singer and songwriter. She was a part of the early 60’s folk music revival, in particular the Greenwich Village scene. Carolyn’s first album in 1957 was produced by Norman Petty, who most will associate with Buddy Holly’s work. Named “The Texas Songbird”, Ms. Hester was active politically, even leading the boycott of the TV program Hootenanny after Pete Seeger was blacklisted from appearing on it. Carolyn was signed to Columbia Records in 1960 and a year later, asked a young Bob Dylan to play on her 3rd album. It was Dylan’s first studio session work. After a brief marriage to fellow folk singer Richard Farina, she collaborated with Bill Lee and Bruce Langhorne, and in the late 60’s formed the Carolyn Hester Coalition. In 1969 she married pianist/producer/songwriter David Blume, a union which lasted until his death in 2006. In more recent times Carolyn has performed and toured with her 2 daughters, Amy and Karla Blume. And in 2010 the trio recorded an album, We Dream Forever
