Robert Schumann - Symphony No. 3, "Rhenish": Third Movement - Original MIDI Performance

Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! With the next step in our "Symphonic Journey", we come to the lovely and lyrical third movement of Robert Schumann's Third Symphony, "Rhenish"! Arguably the most "traditional" of the movements within the symphony, it very closely resembles an orchestrated lieder, ABA in structure, that Schumann was so well known for. Its quiet timbre, combined with the reduced orchestration (brass and percussion are omitted in this movement), it provides a moment of respite during the mid-point of the symphony. It recalls back to the second movement of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, "Pastorale" ("Scene by the brook"), at least to my ear. It almost sounds like an empty boat being pushed down a slow, gentle stream, occasionally bumping lightly against the shore but never getting stuck until the end. But I also hear the woodwind chorales that live throughout all of Tchaikovsky's works, once again connecting the past to the future. Technically, the were almost NO changes to my mix within the template with this movement - save only for a very small timing change of the CSB horns from -20ms to -60ms. It's a very subtle change, but I just felt that it lets them sit in the mix a lot better, for some reason. Many brass players ever-so-slightly anticipate their contribution to the music, and this mimics that behavior.
