They later stated that the incident was promptly reported to wildlife officers. Wildlife officers subsequently arrived at the location without delay. The wildlife veterinarian first carried out an examination of the baby elephant’s leg. Tragically, three gunshot wounds were found on the baby elephant’s leg. Wildlife officers concluded that the injuries had been caused by an illegally manufactured firearm used by poachers. Treatment for the baby elephant’s injured leg was initiated immediately. The wounds were thoroughly cleaned and treated with medication, while saline was also administered. The baby elephant was given saline and vitamins. Fortunately, the bones in the baby elephant’s leg were not damaged. Following the treatment, the baby elephant was allowed to return to the forest. The veterinarian concluded that the baby elephant would require follow-up treatment in about a week. Poachers’ use of illegally manufactured firearms causes injuries to elephants, and in some cases, leads to their deaths. Wildlife officers also conduct continuous operations to track and apprehend poachers.
