#VOTY2022 *I recommend watching this on mobile as watching on pc means youtube obliterates the quality of the video* So. In what might’ve been one of the most unexpected withdrawals in Herts history, the 84. And whilst the route is not being fully withdrawn. Technically under Sullivan, it will be a new route. The 84 has had a very long and interesting history being created in 1912 meaning it has existed for almost 110 years. quick disclaimer: sorry that this visual isn't as high quality as the last one. My editor just would not let me export in 4K so this sadly will have to do. Journey time: 1hr 14 minutes Operator: Metroline (Herts) Body: ADL Enviro400 Chassis: E400 Trident Fleet no. TE889 Reg: LK08 NVD Route: 84 (St Albans - New Barnet) Garage: Potters Bar (PB) Songs used 1. Lane Boy - twentyonepilots 2. Dancin (KRONO remix) - Aaron Smith Simplified history: In 1934 Route was running between St Albans and Golders Green via the more direct A1081 and then following the (current) 263 and 13 to Golders Green. In 1940 the route was rerouted to run from St Albans - Arnos Grove - Walthamstow. (Essentially the modern 34) This lasted until 1969 when the route was cut back to new Barnet and replaced the 34. At the same time it was converted to single deck operation. From 1980-82 the route was extended to Arnos Grove before the 84A (now 184) replaced it At the same time the route was decked and transferred to London Country. In 1986, the route became what we know it is today. Now taking the longer route into potters bar. Returning to London Buses operation. Whilst also arriving at its permanent home (until 02/04/22), PB garage In 1989 as part of the privatisation of London Buses, PB became part of London Northern along with the 84. In 1998 this would be bought by Metroline. (This might be slightly off) In 2006, Metroline decided to transfer the 84 to commercial operation, leaving the Herts tender system behind. With no major funding from the council themselves, this may be considered the beginning of the end. In 2008 brand new commercial spec 10.8m E200s were purchased. Originally in London Metroline livery with blue skirting, these were later painted fully red before receiving their commercial livery of red, white and blue. In early 2018, a few ex Holloway LK55 E400s were transferred to PB to operate on 84 along with some ex 210 tridents. These were replaced in mid 2020 by more TEs, this time LK08s This makes up the allocation of DELs and TEs. This brings us to the current covid period, with no real financial support passengers began to decrease heavily. And now the reason Metroline have cut the 84. From the 2nd April 2022. Sullivan take over part of the route between potters bar and St Albans. Leaving no replacement between Potters Bar and Barnet for the time being. So yeah. Farewell Metroline 84 1912-2022
