Lionel Legacy Southern Pacific Daylight GS-4 steam locomotive. Made by Lionel Electric Trains. 6-11127. This locomotive was released by Lionel in 2008. Some of it's features include Legacy, Railsounds, Odyssey II speed control, a fan driven smoke unit, a quilling whistle, horn, dual Fatboy speakers and an electro-coupler on the rear of the tender. The passenger cars are made by M.T.H. Electric Trains. They are from their Premier line and are their most recent release. They are nicely detailed and have full interiors which are illuminated and have passenger. And they do have a very cool sound as the train highballs down the track. The track is K-Line tubular with O-96 curves. And the train is being controlled with Lionel Legacy. The Southern Pacific had 28 GS-4 locomotive on their roster. GS stands for Golden State as well as General Service and were built in 1941 and 1942 by the Lima Locomotive Works. They had 80" drive wheels and were capable of 115 mph. They remained in service until 1957 when all but one was scrapped. GS-4 4449 was donated to Portland, Oregon when it was on display until being restored to pull the American Freedom Train in the mid 1970's. Today the 4449 is owned and operated by the Friends of SP 4449
