Blank Sheets was the very first song created by Nils Johansen, Geir Jenssen, and Anneli Drecker as a band. In an interview, Anneli described the song as her "audition" and shared the story behind it: "Nils had written the lyrics, and Geir had laid down the foundation with programming. They told me that if I could come up with a vocal melody that fit both the lyrics and the track, I would become a member of the band. This was back in December 1985. After a long walk home in the snowblizz, I relistened to the track and the vocal line just came to me while gazing at the lyrics. I recorded it on my mobile cassette recorder and returned to their studio the next day. Their ‘studio’ was actually Nils’ bedroom at the time. I played the cassette for them, and after a few agonizing seconds of silence, Geir finally spoke.
